Just ran across this article and video from Forbes.  Really fasincating stuff about UP's operations from the folks at their Bailey Yard.

Very interesting, and hopeful, article.  Not many comments so far, but the last one struck my funnybone.

Complaint was that passenger trains don't run, "On schedule."  Complainer obviously doesn't realize that a train is, "On schedule," if it's running within the twelve hour limit.  I know he meant what used to be called, "On the advertised," (AKA on time) but that's not what he typed.
