To All:
I was going through my files and I run across a file that I completely forgot about. It's a little old, but tremendous amount of info and Pic's. So I thought I would share it for all to view.

Good morning
I have been waiting for someone to comment on this post and since no one did I wonder if it's because they feel it might glorify derailments. Derailments are a part of history. Stuff happens. I look at them and wonder what went wrong? Was anyone hurt? They can't be swept onder the rug. Maybe we shouldnt watch the news when there is a plane crash, it's life.
It's snowing at the Gateway City, got to fire up the layout.
Good day.

Derailments (bridge collapses, grade crossing 'incidents') happen. Most people have a morbidly curious streak. Only a very few modelers have ever set out to model a serious derailment in all its gory glory.
Maybe that's a good thing.
To me, this is a, "Look, but don't touch."
Chuck (Modeling Central Japan in September, 1963 - where no significant derailments happened)
The pictures are interesting, but I didn't think you expected a reply. I mean, what kind of a reply were you expecting? I think just about everyone has seen these, and more, I know I have on my many "search" trips on trains and railroads. Derailments are a huge loss of equipment and product, and in some cases, a tragic loss of life, devastating families, and affecting whole communities, and personal property that is not involved with the railroad. What else is there to comment on? As far as modeling goes, I may have seen a few flat cars with wrecked cars and locos that could be interesting to model, but thats about as far as I would go.
Packers lost, *&%#@*!!!!!

I first thought this would be about model railroad derailments. Although many modellers don't model derailments, just like on the prototype, they happen by accident. I am sure there is at least one forummemberwho incorrectly built a bridge and had it collapse under one of their trains.
Yeah! I did not expect any comments. But for those who did view the site. Did see that it has a lot more info and pic's, than Train derailments. Probably should have changed the title, of the thread somehow, rather than say ''and more''.
I'm not usually too interested in wreck photos because of the "ghoul factor". However, a friend once pointed out one redeeming quality to these pix. Many of them show overturned equipment, or they show the equipment from unusual angles. This can show such things as underbody detail very clearly, and can be a big help in modeling. Aside from that, I usually take a pass on wreck photos.
