Then.....1910
Now.....2012
Used as the yard office for CSX and W&W RR
CSX let the building deteriorate so much it became an eyesore. After numerous efforts by the City CSX repaired the building.

Don't Ever Give Up
I do love Then and Now photos in general, even more so with railroads, and much more so with passenger stations. Thanks for sharing.

Alton Junction
Winchester, Virginia! Took a trip there in August of 2012...my how things have changed since your 2010 photo. The white sign had been taken down, new street lights have been installed, new asphalt covers the streets and the station has nice new interlock brick surrounding it. Snapped lots of photo's of CSX locomotives parked out front and just down the tracks a ways. The brew pub across the street is a nice way to sit and Railfan too......!
Thanks for posting.
Happy modeling!
Don.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I have some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that both engines have failed, and we will be stuck here for some time. The good news is that you decided to take the train and not fly."
Don,
You nailed it.
Yes a few years ago the City spent a ton of our tax dollars dressing the city up. On the one hand it does look clean and nice but on the other the city was founded in 1750 and the dress up kind of takes away the historic look.
All in all it is a pretty good compromise of the old and new.
Another little bit of trivia is the restoration of the George Washington Hotel, less than a block from the RR tracks at the depot. Originally built in 1924 it has been restored and is a Wyndham Grand Hotel. I live across town and very night between 11:00 o'clock and 12 when I hear the CSX locomotives blowing their whistles I think of the people paying top dollar in the hotel trying to sleep.

LOVE that hotel! That's where we stay when we visit. Fabulous hotel, great service. I also like the pedestrian mall area in the downtown and the Civil War Museum (kinda spooky inside with the graffiti).
Ahhh good memories.
And don't miss the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley

And the Patsy Cline House

Even though both are local and the MSV is within walking distance of my house I haven't been to either.
