I had a chance to walk through the train manufacturing part at the Krauss-Maffei plant in Germany. I saw the finished trains that would roll out of the finishing bay onto a moving bridge. This bridge would ove between the rows of bays and allow the finished engine to drive into the covered bridge (actually more like a low platform). Then the engine would be shuttled to the main line and the engine tested up and down the line. Way cool. I will try to post a picture. Anyone tried to model this type of facility?
Did Walthers stop making their Transfer Table??They did have a working one and even,showed it in ther'e ..,Rail Shops diorama.

Distant and ancient memory suggests that Lionel had a transfer table way way back.
I recall seeing one at the Wisconsin Central, formerly Soo Line, locomotive shops in Fond du Lac WI, and there was one at the Milwaukee Road car shops in Milwaukee that you could see from the 35th Street viaduct.
