GG1
Posted by southernpacificgs4 on Sunday, September 1, 2013 8:02 PM

I am an SP fan but one of te engines that I like also is a GG1.

The GG1's where in Tuscan Red 5 Stripe (and I think also in Single Stripe), Brunswick Green 5 Stripe and Single Stripe.

Was there a specific color for the passenger service and a specific color for freight service?

The 5 stripe and single stripe was this in the same "time area/time frame"?

Yours sincerely

All G's were dark green locomotive enamel with a couple of exceptions. When the PRR purchased SS cars for the Congressional lmited and the Senator in 1952 there were a total of four trains. A couple of G's were painted silver to match the cars but grease and carbon from the pantographs quickly made that option unworkable so five G's were painted tuscan red. One for each train and one back up. In 1957 the single stripe paint scheme was Introduced as a cost saving measure. It took several years for all engines to be converted. NJT repainted one in tuscan five stripe in the 1980s after Amtrak allowed 4935 to be painted green with five stripes.
