ChadLRyan Welcome! What I did was Google the "CN [RoadNumber]" & then picked the one on RRPictures site & then went through their links, Then I checked LMS in Wiki, & made a short story..

BTW, just to be clear that is an incorrect identity for these engines. They are NOT CN 2400s, they're IC 2400s. The IC sublettering under the cab is the assigned reporting mark.

No they were painted blue for LMS. These units were in a split lease between CN and Conrail during the 1990s.
Some (I don't think all) of these LMS units were later sold to CN, and CN gave them IC reporting marks and just painted over the LMS lettering.
IC had never been owned by Conrail; it was merged into CN in 1998.
Atlas also offered this in LMS blue some years back. LMS engines were fairly common back in the 1990's-early 2000's. I think these were former Conrail units that were kept in Conrail blue by LMS, but could be wrong.

Stevert, Thanks for the clarifications & the Tip pn the Actual Atlas Versions! At first I thought I would have to do a custom, & didn't know there was a factory run in HO.Thanks again!!
ChadLRyan They may have been a leasing company to Conrail, which had IC at the time, & would explain that Conrail Blue Scheme..

Conrail never "had" the IC. Two completely different railroads that never shared any ownership.
At some point after the CN took over the IC, they leased/bought the LMS units and assigned them to the old IC. That's why they have the CN (corporate identity) on the long hood, and the IC (assigned territory) on the cab.
CN never bothered to repaint them, so they still wore their LMS blue.
Atlas actually did a run of these CN units back in 2006 or so. The listing is available here.
CN never bothered to paint (or wash) them because that costs money.
CN's Alstom SD40-3's also wore the lessor's old paint
You'd be far better off caring and using the correct model....Atlas produces the correct C40-8W needed here with the low mounted number boards and high mounted headlight.

Now there are some options to model this in HO at least!Atlas made a fantastic -8 in Conrail colors, just watch the Cab Numberboards position. If you do not care, you could also get a KATO -9 in CEFX (Conrail Blue) You wold have to spot strip the lettering & striping off, on the Kato this is easy as the base coat will not come off, but any add on paint will, you will end up polishing the paint where you rub off the unwanted logos/stripes, & would want to gloss or Dullcoat the holw model after new decals for CN.The Atlas you may need to be more carefull when spot stripping it.Either way it would be an easy & nice project if you do not have one in your CN Roster!I am Almost considering it, as it is a neat color change to the CNOrange/Black standard. -Thanks! Best of luck!!
It's a former LMS C40-8W bought by CN (along with a number of other locomotives they picked up second hand).
Not an AC4400CW.
I have seen this same loco on a few occasions on the CN (former WC, SOO, WCLtd.) main line from Fond du Lac, WI to Chicago. I railfan this line as it passes between Burlington, WI and Waukesha, WI.

Interresant. Thanks, Chad!

Streamlined steam, oh, what a dream!!
I did a search on it, & it was owned by LMS (LMSX) & then IC, picked up by the CN Merger with IC.It looks like LMS stands for Locomotive Management Service (LMSX).They may have been a leasing company to Conrail, which had IC at the time, & would explain that Conrail Blue Scheme..From the Brake Wheel placement & the Inertial Intake Grills this may be a Dash 8 -40C.
Please correct me if I am on the wrong track..
Saw a CN mixed freight passing by work today. The second engine in the leading pair was an AC4400 that was blue for some ruddy reason. Looked like this:
Anyone know the story on this paint scheme? I haven't a clue.
