DAYLINER,

If you want to go an el-cheapo,method and they don't have to be,rectangular, cut a piece of plastic sprue,to your scale, sand it,drill a small hole in one end, insert the head of a small straight pin in the hole, paint it and install....

Cheers,

Frank

Square tubing from Plastruct might do the trick, the edges are kind of rounded. You might need to trim length wise to lower the profile a little.

Thanks ever so much, Mike!  That should do nicely, and fairly easy to whip up with some styrene.

I grabbed a HO Athearn mech reefer. It has two rectangular tanks, one on each side near the truck on the B end. Each is 8' long x 2' wide x 18" tall.

There's no detail and in N it's less important, but there will be a fill neck and fuel gauge on each tank.

50-foot mechanical reefer fuel tanks
Posted by Dayliner on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 9:35 AM

I've been upgrading and updating the Atlas N 50-foot mechanical reefer to represent a BNFE car ca. 1979.  The one significant underbody detail missing from this model is the fuel tank (or tanks) for the mechanical refrigeration equipment.  The usual photo sites do not have pictures that show the underbody in enough clarity or detail for me to do more than guess very approximately what these tanks might have looked like.  Does anyone know the shape and dimension of these tanks, or know a good source of information?

Thanks, as always, in advance.
