One good source on UP two-tone gray passenger paint schemes is the "Pullman Paint and Lettering Notebook," by Arthur D. Dubin. This book was published by Kalmbach in 1997 but is now out of print. Nevertheless, it is still available from many dealers. The book includes reproductions of notebook pages detailing paint schemes kept by a Pullman Co. mechanical inspector, black-and-white photos, and color samples. The notebook page for the UP two-tone-gray scheme calls it the "Overland" scheme for the train it was first applied to. "Greyhound" is a latter-day coinage of railfans and/or model railroad manufacturers.

So long,

Andy

Posted by Anonymous on Monday, August 30, 2004 4:55 PM
Hello:

Any knowledgeable UP modeler and/or fan:

What source can provide adequate information about Union Pacific passenger cars bearing the Greyhound paint scheme? Also, seeking detailed info on prototypical consists, makers, areas of operation, dates in use, etc?

Thanks.
