I was stationed in Sunnyvale in the mid 80s with my apartment about a hundred yards from the Caltrains line. As many trains as I saw go up and down that line, I never thought to take a piccture of one. I think we need to get in the habit of photographing the common place because years from now, it will be lost history.
Circa 1987. Best of a couple from railpictures.net. Try the search function there for CalTrain and the era.

Thanks Art - that helps a lot.
I'm surprised how little info there is on this line. I have found no side shots yet. Much to my chagrin; I took a lot of photos around San Jose in the mid eighties, including the F40s and trains, but no side shotsof the actual cars.
Hi - it was an all gallery car fleet at that time (similar to Metra), IIRC. If you did a search for "Caltrain Passenger Cars" that should get you to one of the on-line sources that will have shots of the cars. No guarantee there will be broadside views in those sources, but it's worth a try. Hope this helps, Art
Could someone tell me what type of cars Caltrain pulled with their F40 PHs in the late eighties, and if possible, where I could find side shots of same? Thanks in advance.
