BNSF "Pumpkins"

I've been looking around at different books and things, but can't pin down when BNSF adopted the orange and green "pumpkin" livery.

Anybody know?

I believe the first locomotives to show up in that scheme would be those of the series 960-1123. Earliest build dates are July of 1996. They are C44-9W's and were painted in the Heritage I scheme.

Good. I bought a Kato C44-9W ($75 from a LHS going out of business) in the pumpkin scheme because I liked it. That was before I had actually pinned down an era for my layout. I eventually decided on the late 90's and was worried the pumpkin wouldn't fit in. Looks like it will fit nicely.

Thanks for the info!

I live along the Ravenna line (that's the powder river basin line) and it was about then when I started to see the SD70MACs painted in the heritage II paint scheme, about 1998 or so probably. but the heritage 1 for the ex SF C44-9Ws was 2 or 3 years earlier or so.
