Would it not be nice, if railroads regained a little of that pioneering spirit of those days?

Germany is celebrating the 175th anniversary of railways in Germany this year with a firework of events. They even rebuilt the 1935 replica of the first loco "Adler", after it burned down in 2005, and put it back to the tracks in working order.

This is the 141th year since the railroads linked the east with the west. 

We have come a long way building the country since 1869, but in the last forty years, much of the track around the USA has been removed.   It makes you wonder what will be the future of the railroads fifties years from now.
