Several railroads did build passenger cars into the streamline era(Milwaukee Road for one).

The majority of cars were built at commercial car building factories (Pullman, ACF, Budd) which made cars for many railroads. In addition each railroad had shops to maintain and refurbish the cars they owned.

I am interested in information on Eastern US plants where they build and/or furnished passenger cars in the mid fifties. Did such plants delivered cars to different railroads, or was this just internal factories for each major railroad?
