The California Zephyr was discontinued in 1970, so it didn't run during 1971-72.

Amtrak did operate a San Fransisco Zephyr, via BN, UP and SP during those years. The trains generally were made up of former BN, UP and SP equipment, but cars from other roads often appeared (especially ex-Santa Fe coaches and 10-6 sleepers).

Typical consists included:
A baggage-dorm (or a baggage car if a dome dorm-lounge or a sleeper-as-dorm were used)
3 or 4 coaches
A full lounge car (often an ex-SP 3/4 length dome)
A diner
3 or 4 sleepers of various room configuarations.
