I would also note that these units were rebuilt from not only GP9s, but also GP9Ms (GN class GP5) and GP18s.
Thankyou Jim. Dimensions inside of stepwells to inside of stepwells: end to end of porches: and short hood end to long hood end? The starting point is a proto GP20 chasis. I am interested because the recess for the hand brake on the short hood makes the short hood look longer and I would also like to create the look of the way the trucks ride under the locomotive without a lot of trial and error. Oh yes the length of the fuel tank too! Thankyou again.

Those 'GP28M' engines are ex-NP GP9's that have a new carbody and internal upgrades. Same 31' wheelbase before and after the 'rebuild'. Even a 'real' GP28 would have the same wheelbase. EMD did not change the wheelbase until the GP38/GP40 in 1966.

Modeling BNSF and Milwaukee Road in SW Wisconsin
I was interested in building a BNSF GP28M and was wondering if anyone knows a source for the dimensions or these recarbodied GP9's? I have an expansive parts box to mine and many terrific photos from the Superior WI fuel racks of these locos.
