BN gondolas

Does anyone know if BN really painted the wood floors of their gondolas green? I just picked up some Life-Like BN gons and the floors are green. I was wondering if that was prototypical.

Why don't you just put a load on it and you wont have to worry about it?

I doubt that BN would have painted their wooden gondola floors at all, as anything that was loaded in the car would surely wear away the paint very quickly. If you dont want to put a load in your cars, you could install a real wood deck, like the ones from Modeler's Cohoce:

All you would have to do is color the deck with a wash (paint heavily thinned with water of thinner) to kill the "new wood" look, then glue the deck into the car.

Gondola interiors were rarely painted. Even brand new cars come with rusty steel inside. There have been a few exceptions where the interiors were painted grey or white to help crane operators see inside the cars. This was done in hopes of reducing the damage done to the cars by the crane operators banging things into the sides.
