Cattle cars
Posted by petvet on Thursday, December 27, 2007 9:28 PM

 Hey all

Well, pretty sure I know the answer, but are cattle (stock) cars still utilized in any railroads currently, or are the cattle generally just shipped via truck/trailer?

Russ Modeling in HO scale, in the midwest, in the 1980s, and possibly in the state of absurdity. Feedback, positive or negative, is appreciated.

Not in the United States or Canada.  The last I am aware of in the U.S. was UP hog movements from Iowa/Nebraska to Los Angeles that ceased in 1994-95.  (There's still Barnum & Bailey Circus Train but that's not quite the same thing!)

Take a look at the Trains General Discussion forum for the same question and much discussion.
