CNW "BU" prefixed loco numbers

Would I be right in thinking that an S3 numbered BU41 was a brake unit rather than a loco or slug?
Did the CNW use many of them? What for (as in traffic rather than for additional brake force)?

C&NW numbered both its yard slugs (BU1-BU18) and road slugs (BU30-BU41) in that series. BU probably stood for Booster Unit. The following link should provide you with a little more information:

The road slugs were used primarily on C&NW's Huron line (now the DM&E) with the former F units between 2 GP35's and the former RS's between 2 C425's.

The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul
