When I worked for IH and we repaired Cats the paint was labeled "Federal Yellow" which is a standard color. There are several model paints that have the color although I cant tell you which off the top of my head. It is just your standard bright yellow, not a railroad color although railroads do use it sometimes.

Which yellow would you like? The older machines were federal yellow and the newer machines are a goldish yellow.

If you can get to a Cat dealer they most likely have paint in stock. In spray cans, Qts,
and gallons.

I can get the "real" paint from Cat dealers, but it is too heavy, even when thinned for the airbrush. Modelpaints are not as heavy, so will fill in the small details without filling them in. So I am looking for a model paint, or a mixture of them to get the right color.

My mother worked for a CAT dealer for many years so I saw quite a bit of CAT yellow. I find that Blue Angels Yellow is very close.

I remember wal-mart used to sell NASCAR colors in there model cars aisle. They were in spraycan form. Maybe they still have the Dave Blaney CAT colors. The spraypaints are from Testor's so maybe you can get it from them on their site.

Cat dealers have paint samples you can always use like posted above. There is also Cat black and Cat green, Cat Military Green, etc etc When we would paint parts for Deere Cat and Case they would have their inspectors come by and make sure the parts were painted the right color and not sloppily done. Thats where I saw a guy pull out the paint samples and check the black paint on some of the Cat parts. Found out that day everyone has a black paint for their own parts.

Cat yellow is produced by virtually every paint manufacturer, so you should have absolutely no problem getting it. Krylon makes it in a spray, but I would recommend that you NOT use it on plastic withoiut testing it first. Rustoleum also makes it, type H-4. I suspect a one pint sample of oil base cat yellow from someone like Sherwin Williams, etc., sprayed through an airbrush with paint thinner as a medium, will last nearly forever and will work just fine as long as the paint is mixed well first. I did this with some real Russian Iron a number of years ago, and it came out great.
