Reefer: Placement of support rod for hatch
Posted by tstage on Sunday, October 22, 2017 10:11 PM

Greetings,

I'm working on a Branchline wood reefer kit.  I'm installing the hatches and have a question about the support rod placement.

I will be modeling the reefer with the hatches closed.  The assembly instructions have a diagram but it's somewhat nebulous.  When the support rod is not supporting the hatch, is this correct orientation of it?  [Click photo to enlarge]

The curved portion appears to fit in a small notch that I presume is hinged on the prototype.  To keep it in the notch the above is as far forward as I can rotate it.  Would this be correct?

Thanks for the help...

Okay, never mind. Embarrassed  I just discovered there were two different support rod types that came with the kit.  That makes sense because the kit came with two types of hatches: A pre-'40 type (Type A) & a post-'40 type (Type B).  The Type B support rod is angled a bit more so it fits in the notch like its supposed to.  The diagram only shows the Type A support rod.  That is what is pitched in the photo above.
