Decals to be removed

Hello all I'm going to be working on a GP60M in HO for my friend he wants something he can remember me by. So he decides he wants an Athearn GP60M. I was wanting to know how to get the decals tht athearn has already applied off of the engine. What tools should I use? Also does Athearn make Unnumbered GP60M's in ATSF? I didnt see any on their site. Thanks.

Athearn probably pad printed the numbers on the locomotives, and did not use decals.

Look on Athearn's website to see if thy offer/ed un-numbered units.

Checked their site they dont have any unnumbered. I heard rubbing alcohal would work too. What do you think?

try rubbing Castrol superclean on a q-tip and wiping it carefully.
i used it to remove paint that someone handpainted on a ac4400 chassis. I let it soak overnight and the paint came right off with a little light scrubbing with a toothbrush. i guess since you got small areas, try dipping a qtip and wiping.

I've had excellent results using 91% isoproply alcohol.

i know that microscale's micro-sol (the stuff in the red bottle) works great for removing the letters and numbers on Athearn genesis locomotives. you might give it a try on their rtr stuff. with micro-sol, you dont have to worry about ruining the paint like you do with alcohol.

what you do is pool some over the numbers and let it soak for 15-20 minutes. add more to keep them wet when it starts to evaporate. then try lightly scraping with a flat blade. when they have soaked long enough, they will peel off just like decals.

I've used this too, to strip paint off any unit, then I go and repaint the whole thing and then apply decals.

91% Isoproply alcohol works great for stripping paint off plastic and most metals.
