I am currently attempting to research the Great Northern railroad facilities in Rugby, ND, with a view to building a layout, probably in modular form. I have an undetailed modern map, and a picture of the depot, but any information of the area, trackplans, lineside industry and environs, especially the late sixties/early seventies, would be most welcome. In return, as a resident of Rugby, England, I could offer similar information on the railways through the town.

It doesn't look like Rugby,ND is a thriving metropolis based on the lack of response. You may need to contact the GN historical society for further information.

I was born and raised near Rugby. It is a small town that the railroad serves for one basic purpose-handling grain. going back far enough, (50's and early 60's) you would find wayfreight, milkhandling, and passenger service to both Minot and Devils Lake. Rugby, North Dakota was named Rugby Junction (1886) by the railroad. It was named after Rugby England to attract English Settlers. I to grew up in North Dakota but close
to the NP. The GN HS is at www.gngoat.org. I'm sure they will have some great info,
that is when you become a member. [:)]

A source you might try for earlier track plans, an outlet for U. S. Geodetic Survey quadrangle maps, is Maptech whose URL is:

I haven't checked to determine if the Rugby quadrangles are in their collection.
