Yes I believe that is correct, it's in "Small Railroads you can Build" and it includes one or two pics not in the original articles, might be a better deal than ordering the back issues (oops!)
Hi,
The Model Railroader magazine from Dec. 1994 has the track plan, material list for the track, buildings and information detailing how to build this layout.
The magazine is still available from Model Railroader magazine. Just click on the Model Railroader magazine ad at the top of this page and when at the site click our magazines and scroll down to back issues and order if you like.
Barry
I think it's ok to post this.,,
Page 11 in "SRRYCB":
27 9-in straight
15 18-in radius curves
14 22-in radius curves
5 pack 36-in flex
8 #4 left TOs
4 #4 right TOs
4 pack 3-in straight
4 pack half 18-in radius curve
1 short track assortment
The Dec 1994 article has a list of track pieces. You might also want to look into the Atlas Ho Layouts
http://www.atlasrr.com/Code100web/index.htm
Even though some of them are not so great, they all have track component lists or even track kits.

Nothing says the plan has to be exactly like the ones in the books.
Sorry can't help you with the articles. If you checked with MR and the copies are not available, try asking for copies of the articles. Watch at train shows for back issues, though this is not the time of year for many shows.
I don't have "Small ...," but do have "101 ...." Try Walthers catalog for copies of both. You are right they do not give you a list of track needs. It does say it is concidered to have sharp curves if you are in HO on a 4x8 layout or any other scale using that configuration. You could use flex track for fewer joints and the number of switches shown. If you have a little more space you could make it so the curves aren't so sharp using the flex track.
Good luck and have fun,
Does the Dec '94 issue of MR contain a detailed track plan for the Red Wing? Does the Red Wing also appear in the Kalmbach book "Small Layouts You Can Build" (Johnson 1996)? Which of these two publications is the more detailed for the layout?
Are lists of track components provided in "101Track Plans or do you make your own conversions based the the scale you are modeling? L26- the Pennsylvania and Potomac caught my eye. I would check it out myself but, no LHS within drivable distance has a copy in stock.
Does anyone know where I could get a copy of the Dec '96 issue of MR. Seems it is out of print. Thanks.
