There have been a couple of articles in the MR recently that show you how to install decoders in athearn locos. Indeed Digitrax sell a decoder with a wiring harness for athearn locos so you can do it without soldering.

There shouldn't be any reason why you can't convert the trainline loco but it is a bit more complicated so would be difficult ot put up on this board.

Try getting magazine articles and books (Lionel Strang brought out one a wee while ago) that will give you pinters and enable you to do it.

It should not be very difficult.

I think you might be able to buy a replacement circuit board for the Dash 8-40b which includes a decoder unit. You then have to solder the wires from the pickups and motor to the new circuit board.

Talk to your DCC system vendor and ask for recommendations for those models. They can usually steer you to the right decoder or tell you they don't have one.
