It seems that it is simplex (one way) as opposed to duplex. Can the Digitrax UT4R (their newest wireless throttle) do the following. After you aquire an engine,  you unplug the throttle and go wireless. You follow the engine around and it goes into a turnout that is set wrong and shorts the track. After fixing the short, can you now run the engine without going back and plugging in?

Since it is simplex not duplex (or maybe it is duplex, I don't really know).

What other features CAN'T you do with the throttle wirelss that you CAN do with it plugged in?

Yes, it an do that.  The only thing you can't do while unplugged is acquire a new a new locomotive.  Also the UT4s can't control switch controller whether plugged in or not.
