Original MRC Prodigy Question

I'm in the process of wiring up my layout for DCC. I'll be using the original MRC Prodigy system. I want to add extension plates (AD492) on a daisy chain. There are several places I need to make longer runs than the supplied 12 ft. cables. MRC says they don't recommend going "much" longer than 12 ft. if using custom cables. I assume this is because of voltage drop on the longer cables. Has anyone used a MRC Prodigy and installed extension plates on longer than 12 ft. cables? If so what has been your experience?
