You know, I also found that using the packaging from the crap that I buy... like groceries, can also be used for billboards... and I just make the frames and post myself... just a thought for you.

I have used billboard kits from JL Innovative, having said that, billboard structures are an easy scratch build and this is what I do now.  Cut a rectangle of serial box cardboard to size with your image.  Trim with fine dimensional lumber.  Cut 4 or 5 poles from round scale lumber stock and stick to the back.  Add some cross members and then paint or stain a creosote color.  Glue on the image and you are done.

This is a JL billboard that I then finished with some stained bridal veil for the netting and added some lighting as well so that it can be lit.

So do I, I like usin business cards. I take a colored printer and get it to the appropriate size, then build a little frame for it out of strip wood and frame it. I usually add the little details later.

I copy signs & billboards off ebay. Go to collectables, then search for signs, copy & paste image to a publisher desk top, crop & size for your scale ( HO for me ). then save to a file. Then you can print on paper, cardstock or full sticker page. With full sticker just cut out, trim and stick to a stiff backing or right to a building. With paper or cardstock you can use double sided tape or glue of your choice.

These signs on the cafe I scanned from a sign catalog.

You can also copy people, Background buildings, interiors, ect.

This is off a postcard found on ebay under collectables/paper/postcards. These are great to use as background buidings.

These are old ink blotters copied off ebay, found under collectables/paper/ink blotters. Most are rectangle and make nice billboards.

Bar Mills makes great looking billboard kits. You can also scratch build your billboard supports using scale wood. Either way, both make great looking billboards. Remember, billboards come in every shape and size. So whatever you end up with will probably have a prototype to match it.

Have Fun.... Bob.
