From Diorama to Layout: Best Solutions

Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone knows of a good way to built a kit as a diorama to be later included in a layout. Would you just lay the structure down as is on the diorama? Should I construct a base for the structure first that I can pull out?
Just looking for some suggestions, thanks.

Can you turn your diorama into a module that would attach to an existing layout (or other modules)?
Creating a base for your "re-usable" components would certainly be a good idea if you want to dismantle it later. I have used foamcore for my buildings. Takes a little scenicking to get it to blend, but *should* be easy to remove later.
