I was right about the place I originally saw the idea. It was hint number 8-48. The book was originally published in 1965 by Kalmbach. Back then, Model Railroader magazine ran a column called "Kinks" and these hints were collected ("culled" as they say on the cover) from there.

BTW, the cover price on my copy is $2.00!

Good morning, and thanks for all the response. As far as the lables go, I simply super glued the sacks to the pallet then spray painted the whole thing the base color, then used a very fine paint brush and Wal Mart craft paint to do the lables. When the paint was all dry, spray with Dullcote and put them in front of the store. I even put a couple of sacks on a flat bed PU truck. Mike

I am modeling the Cargill Salt mine and could use some sacks of pallets. Would you share the process for making the sacks?

I took the advice on feed sacks made from 1/4'' copper tubing (Thank You!!) They came out pretty good. Here is a pic. Mike
