n scale kato business car/dcc?

I have a N scale kato business car with a richmond control light kit installed. I believe it has a capacitor in it. this car and kit was designed for my old dc layout. Before I set it on the new dcc layout I,m wondering if it will work? or will it smoke the electronics? Any body have this combination? Or do I need to put in a stock kato light kit and a decoder?
