Grounding your boosters, PM42s etc. together is system ground. (Sorta like common rail wiring a layout, BUT NOT REALLY). It is not an earth ground! Much confusion about this. It's not just a Digitrax issue, other DCC manufacturers are saying the same things about their products.

You might want to check out several threads in the DIgitrax Yahoo Group about this very topic.

Digitrax booster grounding... how critical?
Posted by gmpullman on Thursday, May 4, 2006 9:15 PM
Hi, Folks...
I wondered just how important is it to ground my 3 boosters to each other AND is this ground wire also supposed to be grounded to the household ground circuit ?

Everything I read, even in the Digitrax manual says "we suggest" this or we recommend that ... don't they know for sure? The manual is a bit ambiguous at times, to say the least.

Alan gartner "recommends" grounding and I guess I'm also supposed to CUT the #2 and #5 wires in the Loconet cable between the boosters... is it possible to have too much of a ground?

What would be the advantage to running the "heavy" ground wire between boosters?
Thanks, ED
