Square verses Rectangle for HO Layout space

Designing new house to cover basement layout in HO. Will have about 1500-2000 sq ft. Which is better to build layout a rectangle space or square space given that it will be N&W - SR in steam era.

Rectangular. Its like the advise you heard when putting trees or structures on layouts. Always put and odd number, never an even number. Some how the eye likes variety, and a rectangular space will not be "uniform" in look.

Smooth flowing curves in backboard and facia is really pleasing to the eye. I am slowly redoing my layout to get rid of angular corners and straight lines.

I'm not sure it really matters if you can effectively break the layout into scenes and prevent the whole thing from being viewed at once.

Rectangle or square - well the square lends itself to more uniform sections or blocks - and may hide the fact of short trains better. A rectangle is better if you are going to have some long features - a big or long yard for example. Other than that, I don't see the rectangle as having any advantages over the square.
