LOANED my mother -in-law the 91 Bronco, then will sell that. The Porsche and the Jag XJS are crying for some attenion. The car show season starts next week with Amelia Island so we will drive the Ferrari down and that will mark the end of progress on the A&N till October. I can snekj about 1 day a week MAYBE depending on the schedule and what gets dinged and chipped. Her "E" type Jag was SUPPOSED to be ready for this season BUT the trains one out for my time.

Yea, right Krysti Bought another Mercedes last night. DCC is cheaper, that makes 14 in the collection still behind the lococ count. [:D][:D][:D]

Randy I like the tube idea, will give it a shot. I think I may change the name of mine from A&N to R&D since that is what I have been doing. If I was a lot younger then this would be a good first try..

I found that using photobucket ( http://www.photobucket.com ) works the best for this forum. You can post your pics here as well as link to them or link to the whole album. If you want captions about the pics you can add them as well. Yahoo groups is a members only thing and I dont really like it. (my module group has a yahoo group thing I dont go there often).

maybe give photobucket a try it is easy to use and free too.

The Crowns were made by Tenshodo, so no, that wouldn't be a Crown series then. A nice can motor and a paint job and you'll have a nice loco there.

I've been experimenting with using caulk to glue the Tortoise in place. With wood you could use a dab of caulk to hold while you line it up, and then drive screws for a more permanent mount. To get in the ballpark, I'd drill the hole first, and then tape the points in the center and drop a wire down from the top. Use a flag of tape or some other method to keep the wire from falling through, and use that as a guide down below to initially position the Tortoise. Then fit the shaped wire - rather than try and bend the long piece, just use that as a guide over and over again. Have proper length pieces stocked up pre-bent and ready to install. Use the caulk and the Tortoise will support itself while you slide it around to just the right alignment. If everything is centered and the Tortoise is reasonably parallel to the track it will be fine - it doesn't have to be dead-on, at least with HO and N turnouts, there's PLENTY of extra throw to cover the slack. On larger scales with a greater throw distance on the turnout, it wil be more critical to have the Tortoise exactly centered.
Or use one of the alternate methods with a brass tube and the wire running inside it. The wire up top gets a J shape (use the shift gate of a Jag for a template.. no, not really, too big!) and underneath you form it into a loop. A straight piece of wire on the Tortoise goes inside the loop and pushes it from side to side, which rotates the wire passing through the brass tube and operates the points. All adjustment in that case is from underneath, you hardly have to look at the turnout once the wire is in place. Just line the Tortoise up with the motion of the loop from below.

Randy it was $50.00 has an open frame motor and came out of an estate sale. It is very well crafted and it does run. How can you tell a crown? Markings? all it says is United and PFM that I could find. Has been in a case since somtime in the early 70's. Has the old Kadee with the straight pin. Thanks for the ID.
I am working on a better way to install a Tortise (drilling and line up. Have 115 to do. Did 10 and it took over 30 min each to align and drill, has to be a better way!

$50? You got a steal! What sort ofmotor is in it? Some PFM's have very nice motors. If it's one of those, it should run great. If it's an older open frame motor you might want to consider a replacement. I don't think that's one of the Crown series - if it is it's more than a steal you got if you only paid $50.

Maybe, maybe not. It's an oil tender, so that limits the road options, mostly in the west. But I couldn't find any pictures of Berkshires other than the Lima ones for comparison.

Unless the photos are made public (not even sure you can do that with a Yahoo group) you have to join. Free storage, yes. Downside is there's not much space.
If you click on the link at the bottom of my web page, you can sign up for an excellent hosting provider for $1 per month. Great service and very resposnive and reliable. I'm just a satisfied customer, never met the guy, he's in California. But there was a downtime issue over the weekend that didn't even affect the server my page is hosted on and he gave ALL customers an extra week hosting for <12 hours of downtime.
