Santa Fe's corrugated-body
Posted by FJ and G on Friday, December 16, 2005 9:17 AM
Santa Fe once used diesels with corrugated siding in blue & yellow scheme. They could have been F45s?

I saw pictures of them in Santa Fe Modeling & Historical web site links. However, none of those diesel links are working b/c there were technical problems with some of their servers.

Does anyone recall seeing those types of diesels and would you have a working link to a photo of one?

Thanks.

The only locomotives that I can think of that had corrugated sides was the U30CG. Below is a link to some pics and a brief history. The came late in the scene as far a passenger service goes. They only saw a couple of years of passenger service. They are only available in brass in HO and are a little tought to come by. I believe Caboose Hobbies has a couple.

The F45s never had corrugated sides.

Darrell,

Those are funny (welded?) sides on those photos but I'm speaking of actual corregated (flues).

Smitty,

I was just guessing the model.

BTW, I was gonna post this on the Trains site but got confused. Thanks for replying, tho

OK, an old-timer helped me out:

Sante Fe had the GE U30CG (G indicating steam generator equipped). They were traded in to GE in the late 70's.
