I model Southern and Norfolk Southern, so a swipe of flat black across the numbers worked for me.

an ink eraser is your regular rubber pencil eraser with an abrasive added. they can be found in the school supplies section of the store next to the pink ones that erase pencil marks.

they erase ink on paper by "sandpapering" off the ink and top layer of paper.

gently use the ink eraser to "erase" just the numbers you want to remove. the new decals you apply will cover the "dull spot" left from the process. if you screw up, the dull spot can be rubbed out with first red than white automotive rubbing compound.

if the numbers you want to remove are actually decals: first soften with a strong decalset (champion brand is good) and wa***hem off. champion decals would be another source for your new numbers.

Changing Engine Numbers
Posted by jmoonan on Monday, November 28, 2005 11:02 PM
I have several engines with duplicate engine numbers. Engines are from Atlas, Stewart and LL P2000. I would like to remove the existing number without having to strip the entire model.

Any suggestions of how to do this?

What would be a good source of engine number decals (I'm modeling SP)?

Thanks, John
