Using Remote Control on Digitrax DCC Loconet
Posted by Bre2tSco2t on Monday, November 7, 2005 10:24 AM
Last night I pulled out my video tape that came with my chief system some years back. I wanted to watch it and see if there were some things that I had forgotten. The guy doing the video made mention several times that you could use an old remote control as a utility throttle. He never said exactly how to do this. So, I went searching Digitrax site and Google. No luck so far. I do have the IR receiver panels on our layout.

Has anyone done this? Is it really doable? Info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

FYI.

I sent an email to Digitrax about this and here is their reply.

It was an idea that never bore fruit and to my knowledge doesn't exist.
Unquote.

Thanks for reading.

But, since Digitrax loves to support homebrew experimenters - someone HAS gone out and done somethign similar. See http://embeddedloconet.sourceforge.net/. This is not something for the electrical novice, but the end result is a TV remote can run trains.

In my opinion, this is only slightly better than the Lenz use of a cordless phone as a throttle. At least a remote control usually as 4 arrows of some sort so you have something a little more logical for forward/reverse and faster/slower. The not as friendly operation, plus the fact that the regular Digitrax throttles have IR capability (even the ones without radio), is probably why they never made a product out of this idea.
