Restoring 7 stall round house
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 12:16 AM
Started to rebuild a scratch built round house, need help with the motors that open the stall doors, original motors are from " Wonder prod corp" I have most of the hardware except the door gears, this part of the layout is at least 50 years old.

That's not much to go on. Are you putting motorized doors on all 7 stalls? Do the original motors work, and you're just missing the gear trains? Also, are the doors standard horizontal swinging doors, or overhead types? Also, what scale are you modelling in?

If I were doing this, I would use a slow-motion switch machine (like a Tortoise) and build a linkage to open and close the doors. Of course, 7 Tortoises would be a significant investment, although it would give you the ability to open and close the doors with DCC.

If you have a digital camera, see if you can get a couple of pictures of the linkage. Search the "General Discussion" forum for information on how to post pictures, and put some up for us. (Basically, you have to upload them to some other site, like Railimages.com, and create a link from your post. MR doesn't provide server space for photos.)

Welcome aboard. I think you'll find this is a very friendly and well-informed group.

Edit: Bumping this up. He's new to the forum, and it's been a busy day.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
