I found this webpage about scenery. It's really good so I want to share it with you all.

Thanks Electro. That's great. You can use all those tips even if you're not doing a modular layout.

Thanks, glad that you all liked it.

I have one question. I can not find anything about cleaning the rails from paint. Maybe someone can fill in that info for me.

I noticed he added ballast last. What's the thought on this? Before the scenery or after all scenery is complete?

IMO This is the best way to do it. I also read it in Lou Sassi's book. Do all of the other scenery right up to the road bed and ballast last. It made sense to me be cause you would not have to bring scenic details up to the the ballast. Rather, the ballast would be laid down and may overlap things like ground cover. It seems to me that this is the way it happens in the prototype. One more thought, if your ballast is down first, you would have to be very careful not too get to close when applying ground cover nearby.

Good ole FCSME, I am actually thinking about joining them because my RRing Merit Badge Instructor is a member and I love the look of the layout.

good site... before spray painting the rails apply a little oil to the tops of the rails with a cloth.... ballest first and last i have tried both...i think that last is best ( as in the real world ).....remember to airbru***he track and ballest after it is all complete..sandy going up hill, oil stains at signals etc....peter
