I use #5s on standard guage locos and cars. And for Narrow guage #58s when these two scales are side by side the look sweet. Oh yeah I have used scale McHenerys and Kadees just fine, same goes for their standard couplers. Ther only problem with Mchenery is the old ones with the plastic centering spring got all bent out of shape. But the new ones with the metel spring are great.

The only knuckle couplers that won't mate with Kadee, McHenry, P2K, Accurail or Bachmann knuckle couplers are the finescale Sergent Engineering coupler and the compatible dummies sold through Sergent's website.
I'm partial to the Kadee 58, although I'm experimenting with the McHenry double-shelf coupler on tank cars, as it's better-looking than the Kadee 118. The jury is still out on which I'll end up using.

I've used both Kadee and McHenry scale sized couplers and have had no compatiblity problems with either one.

Yes; the new McHenry scale couplers will mate with Kadee #58s. I got a few of the new couplers with some of the new IM ATSF stock car kits, and gave them a try. Not bad for plastic couplers, but I'll probably stick with the #58s for security and standardization.

Does anyone know if McHenry couplers will mate with Kadee and will Kadee mate with some of the others out there. I'm stockpiling Kadee but sometimes I purchase rolling stock with other brands. I haven't had the time to test this.
