Wiring Atlas Switches for DCC
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, May 30, 2005 11:26 AM
I am in the process of planning a new layout that will use Atlas' Code 55 n- scale switches. I don't want to use the switch relay mentioned in the instructions on the back of the packaging. Has anyone used these switches who could tell me how to wire them for DCC?

They will work fine as-is, but if you don't power the frog you may have problems with smaller locos and those that don't pick up power with many wheels stalling at that point. That's what the relay is for, not to make it work with DCC. If you use Tortoise switch motros instead of the Atlas ones, you don't need the relay as the Tortoise has contacts for that purpose built-in.

Thanks Randy for the info. I do plan on using Tortoise switch machines.
