Oh, another point. for crossovers, connect both tortoises to the same terminal block, and actuate them both from the same switch. That way you will never experience the thrill of having a short or derail at a crossover.

I locate the throw bar and draw a line perpendicular to the track centerline. then offset it 1/8" and make a 2 1/4" square hole through the foam. come back to the actuator line and draw a 3 1/8" square from that line. I use 1/4" plywood 3" square, so recess the foam 1/4" so that the plywood is flush with the foam on top. I pre-drill the tortoise screw hole layout on the bottom of the plywood before gluing the plywood down in the foam with clear silicone adhesive. You could also use liquid nails. I use about 8" wires from the tortoise to a 2 terminal block that I leave hanging down for connection to control. It makes it easier if you need to reverse the wires or replace the tortoise in the future.
