You can also use thread / wire with a weight and pulley at the turnout. It's still under the table though. If you want above the table, you can mount a switch machine or lever at the front of the table and run a stiff wire to the throw bar.

You can make toggle springs (like Peco) for any turnout using spring wire (aka music wire).
Automotive choke cables (see your autoparts store) are another alternative.

For turnouts that can be reached to throw by hand, you can use Caboose Hobbies Ground Throws or get Peco turnouts, which can easily be thrown by hand without any additional expense.

hey
i was just wonderin if there is any other alternitives to switches other then under table switches and just regular switch machines. any info would be great.
