Ok, I think I might have figured out the problem. [:)]

I losened the four mounting screws for the TT just a bit, and the indexing in
both directions is now much better, well within working range.
Apparently, the plywood in my layout isn't as flat as I thought and the TT was
bend ever so slightly, affecting the indexing.

Next stop - installing the motor drive. I heard it's pretty noisy.
We'll see..

Hi gsetter,

thanks for your reply.

I agree that one should not expect too much from such an inexpensive item.
On the other hand, the basic operation should work as advertised, IMHO.

I haven't hooked the motor unit up to it yet and I'm still using the hand crank,
as I am not done installing the roundhouse and exiting tracks.

I will post this question to the Atlas forum as well - good idea.

Kyle
I have the HO version from my old layout. I haven't used it in years but I slowed down the TT and align it by eye. Since it is a rather inexpensive but somewhat complex mechanism, I don't expect exact accuracy. What are you using for the power control? I use an old power pack to control speed.

Atlas has a Forum, maybe you if you post there too you might get more responses.

Atlas N scale turntable indexing?
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, April 22, 2005 3:23 AM
Hi,

I just installed the Atlas N turntable and I noticed a problem with the indexing
when turning it CCW versus CW. When I align the aproaching track and turn
the table clockwise, it indexes very accurate. But when I turn CCW, the
alignment is off by about the thickness of a rail - too much..

Is anyone else here using this TT and is having the same problem, or did
I just get a flawed table?
As of now, I am restricted to turn the table in one direction only, after aligning
the tracks.
I will try to maybe "split the difference" when aligning the tracks, but I'm not sure if that will work.

Kyle.
