TRESTLE DRAWINGS

I am ready to build a wood beam trestle on my pike. I remember seeing an extensive article them in a back issue of M.R. It had drawings of the bents as well as the cross and diagonal bracing. I have looked and looked in my back issues, but cant find it. Does anyone out there know what issue it was in? Thanks ahead of time.

The Model Railroader Bridges book at $20 is great for this. Has plans and instructions for a couple of wood trestle. I bought it just for those, but some steel work is also in my plans

Many railroad historical societies sell books of photocopies of maintenance of way drawings. I bought a book from the C&OHS for ~$18 and it has a page of wooden trestle drawings as well as plenty of other useful info about trackwork, turnouts, grade profiles, etc...

Look at the top of this website page. Go to the magazine index, and do a search through the various modelling magazines for "trestle". You'll end up with dozens of plans. MR will be happy to provide photocopies of any from MR that you're interested in for a small fee.

Drawings? I just went and done some measuring on a local wooded low level trestle, and did some resizing, and poof... endend up with mine... still in the works I might add... could send pictures if you want...

This month's issue of Railroad Model Craftsman has a good article on building trestles. The design of the trestle bents should be different if the trestle is tall (timber is "stacked" when it exceeds the tree heights).

G'day, Y'all,
When I worked at The Great Train Store In Atlanta, some fellow from Maine showed me a picture of a trestle he had built from that Kalmbach book, the trestle in the 1962 or 3 MR which he had done in G scale. After making the trestle, he grabbed his camera, a beer can and a caboose. He held the trestle up on the near end with the beer can, stuffed the other into a snow bank, making a right of way of maybe a foot and stuck the caboose on the track on the far end of the trestle. The result was probably the most realistic model photo I've ever seen. I made a jig in S gauge when I got the MR in the early 60s but never made a bent. Then in one of my may adult moves, lost it. I was heartbroken.
