If you can deal with premade cables in set lengths - you can actually get the correct cables at WalMart! In the phone section. I think they ave 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, and 24 foot lengths.
I'm about ready to start doing my fascia and panels, so I will need to make a run over to the local Graybar. That's where I get all cable-related items - spools of Cat5 for my home network, etc. But I needed one 6-foot cable to connect my Locobuffer to the Zephyr so I just grabbed one a WalMart.
For your actual panel jacks, Chip is right, use the real Digitrax panels. It's what they're made for.

There's a document on the Digitrax Web site entitled "LocoNet Wiring" that says it uses standard Telco RJ12 six-conductor crimp-on plugs.

Radio Shack is not a good source of these parts -- you need to consult a better mail order source such as Mouser Electronics, All Electronics, and DigiKey for the proper parts, or find a better electronics supply house near you other than Radio Shack.

I haven't tested it, but it is closer to an ethernet jack. At any rate, you can get the real deal Digitrax for about $15 for a two-jack plate.

I'd like to create a plug on the back of my layout for my Zephyr system. (I juts bought a UT4). The Zephyr manuual says to use RJ12 6 pin connectors. The local Radio Shack says they have nothing matchin RJ12 in their computer. I bought a 6 pin connectore that they sell for telephones, but it doesn't seem to fit the Zephyr plug. Is RJ12 called something else, or I am just lost?
