Anyone in Phoenix?

Hey John:

Sorry I wasn't able to get back to you sooner, just started my computer up this morning since Friday. I'm way up in Desert Hills which is extreme N. Phx, off Carefree Highway. I spent this weekend adding length and width to the layout which I'm now up to 7' by 12'. Actually, the more benchwork I did, the more ideas I got, but I can really use a second pair of eyes. If you've got a weekend free, let me know and I'll buy lunch! Your idea of starting a group is a great idea! I was thinking of joining the Arizona Railroad Club which meets out at 43rd and Pinnacle Peak at their Railroad Park, though I'd like to focus more on homebased layouts like you mentioned. Don (last post) is also in Phoenix and pretty darn close to my location as well, sounds like he's interested as well. Just happended by here and saw this, I haven't posted here in a very long time, But anyway, I am in the northwest Phoenix area (just north of Bell Rd. and west of the 303)) and wouldn't mind meeting a few others in the area to trade infor and help. I am into N scale only.

I am in Phoenix. Ok I am bit a south, Tempe/Mesa border but be more than happy to lend a hand. Ironically, I am in the middle of tearing down my layout and will be a bit before I can start my new one (We moved, but got a bigger gargage now!) ... Heck, its only been 2 days and I all ready have a serious itch... I have the day off tommorow.. After a week of work and movieng, I woudl love to spend some good "quality train time"

Plus, I am looking for Phx guys to maybe get together a small group with homebased layouts. I am in a club now but they are module and I just cant seem to get into that.

I can only give you an idea of what the BNSF line looks like in Phoenix. Pretty much black/white ballast near the yards, couldn't tell you much what the mainline looks like. It's kinda hard to remember, heck I drive past the BNSF yard every day. Give me a few days and I'll give you a better description. I was hi-railing just about seven months ago east of Phoenix on the Union Pacific line checking an area with UP in which a loco punctured a saddle tank. From what I can remember from that the balast was clearly black/white with some gray....out in the rural areas I remember being on scene at some derailments back when SP was still running in the early 90's, and it looked as though the ballast was just about anything they could find, in terms of color and consistency. Check back Monday and I should have some answers. Steve

very off topic , but what color is the ballast in arizona ? I'm modeling the Santa Fe Prescott and Phoenix in 1910-1919 era and i only have black and white photos of the area to work from .

Just wondering if there's anyone located in North Phoenix, Arizona or the area? I'm still scratching my head on my track layout and may need a second pair of eyes. Let me know if you've got a couple of hours on a Saturday and I'll throw in lunch if anyone can help me figure out this extra line I propose to put in and the curve issues I've got.
