Well, to settle it once and for all, it was the Simon & Garfunkle version of Sounds of Silence that inspired the title of the original post. I owned it on vinyl, and now I've got it on CD.

I've just unpacked the engine-cam which was the reason for all of this in the first place. Over the next few weeks, I'll be experimenting with different techniques to see which ones give me the best subway images when viewed through the motorman's eyes.

Maureen, thanks for the tip about the advertising on the barriers between the rails. I remember some funeral home ads in the T, which my mind's ear always read like a loud AM radio DJ. On mine, though, I think I'll replace the slogan "serving the bereaved with dignity and compassion" with something like "we put the fun back in funeral." I've modified my original track plan to have a double-track at the station, and I put in a siding that viewers will briefly look down before the train whips around the curve.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
