I'm in the process of renumbering and re-lettering some of my Accurail 3-Bay Covered hoppers. What is the best thing to use to get rid of the Road Numbers?

Sorry, I know this reply has taken a while to be posted, but it's taken me this long to search through all my old model railway magazines hunting for the reply, and finally I've found it!

There are a number of products which will get rid of numbers:

The first is Nail Varnish (however this can strip the paint on some models).

Second there is a product by the name of T-Cut. T-Cut can be used on the blunt end of a matchstick or a cotton bud. (This removes the numbers without damaging the paint too much!)

Thirdly there is an alternative product called Micro-Mesh from Hannants in Lowestoft (UK). (www.hannants.co.uk)

Which 3-bay covered hoppers? I have some BNSF ones that had a coupon in one. I sent Accurail $3.00 and they sent me a decal sheet with11 new numbers printed on matching background color. So all I have to do is apply the decal over the old number, and spray the car with a clear coat to cover the decal film and it's done. Check out their web site : www.accurail.com/accurail/

I recently online ordered extra numbers from Accurail. Well, that plus some more cars since I was there.
Anyways, The extra numbers work great. They are printed on the same color as the car. What I did was to trim the new numbers as close as possible to the digits and only changed one or two digits instead of overlaying the whole number. This hid the decal quite well after application.
I did notice that not all number sets are in stock though. Luckily they had the ones I needed for the cars I have.

Thanks for the help guys, I actually found that same coupon and ordered the extra numbers as well. By the way the cars I'm talking about are the SCL Family Lines covered hoppers. So all I have to do is trim the new number out and apply it on the car, sounds pretty easy.
