HO Railroading Outside?

Has anyone tried running HO scale outside? It just seems like such a great idea, with some obvious areas of concern. Just looking for feedback.

Your question aroused my curiosity because I thought I vaguely remembered an article on the subject. Did a keyword search at the Index of Magazines and it turned up five relevant article citations:

Well, one of them is OO, but that is probably close enough. You may have to request copies of some of the articles from the NMRA's Kalmbach Memorial Library:

Their photocopy rate is reasonable, even if you're not a member. Hope this helps. Perhaps someone has direct knowledge of one of the layouts.
