Removing Engine Lettering
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, March 4, 2005 12:28 AM
Several months ago, I read somewhere in MR about how to remove factory lettering from an engine. I don't remember if it was in the Railway Postoffice or just an article. I have searched and searched and can't seem to find it. Does anyone remember anything about what they used to get the lettering off?
Thanks,
Bob

I believe it was the March 2005 issue and they suggested using a pencil eraser.

Hi Bob,

That piece (that I wrote) appeared in the July 2004 issue on page 28. Pine Sol. It's easy.

Good luck,
Erik

Does the Pine Sol only remove the lettering or will it remove the paint to? I have used rubbing alcohol to remove old weathering paint (enamels) and if careful it won't remove the factory paint.
