non-nmra compliant dcc system
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, March 3, 2005 11:18 AM
I have cvp products brand rail command DCC. it is not (?) compatible ,I am told with NMRA DCC systems.

with all the locomotives from various manufactures , that are available with recievers and sounds installed , I would like to know if anyone knows if the NMRA recievers can be made to work with Railcommand system?

I'm not an electronics guy ,so are there modifications that can be made so NMRA DCC recievers will work on railcommand?[?]

RailCommand is not a DCC system. It's an analog command control system based upon the technology of the CTC-16 system developed by Keith Guiterrez in the 1970's. The lack of cross-compatibility among analog systems was why DCC developed along the lines that it did, and why DCC has become so much more popular than the older systems.

I don't think RailCommand can be made to work with DCC. As far as I know, the only analog system that had a DCC interface was PSI's Dynatrol.

hiwattboy2,

CVP does make a DCC system called EasyDCC, which is compatible. It'll run you about $230. It's supposed to be very good, with a simple and reliable design. Joe Fugate (a regular on this forum) has one on his Siskayou line and likes it very much. It's on my top 2 or 3 list of possibilties for future DCC systems, after I outgrow my Bachmann EZ Command System.

Fellas, I have just ordered a Digitrax Empire Builder, and never got to "outgrow my EZ Command". I found, as so many others have on this forum, that the EZ Command will not program a BLI loco, but only after it was all wired up and 'ready to go'.

GRRRR!
